This is what we learned about muscles:

Muscles help move your body.
They are made out of many stretchy, elastic cells and fibers.
We have more than 600 muscles in our body, and they hardly ever work alone.

Muscles make up half the weight of your body!
Muscles work in pairs.
We have one group of muscles to pull the bone forward and another to pull the bone back.
Muscles band together to form muscle groups which work together.
Muscles also help hold your organs in place.
My muscles help my organs do their work, too.

My heart is a muscle and it makes my blood move through my body. The heart beats between 60 and 80 beats every minute without you having to think about it.

Muscles help you chew food and even close your eyelids.
My muscles even help me to smile!
Did you know it takes more muscles to frown that it does to smile?
When one muscle is working, contracting, the other muscle is relaxing.
My diaphragm is a muscle which helps my lungs breathe.
Muscles help you
run.
Voluntary muscles, such as your arms and legs can be controlled by your thoughts.
All this muscle action is controlled by your brain, which sends and receives
signals through your nervous system.
