Introduce yourself if you are not the teacher

in that particular room.

Ask them to listen carefully to what you read.

Then say, "Can you do that for me?"

Think about parts of the retell without talking out loud.

Tell them when I am done  reading I am going to ask

you a few questions.

Save the questions for last--

Do you have any questions before we begin?

Open to any page in the book that you want then

ask the student,

"Can you find a word or a sentence on this page you can read?"

"Can you tell me what this book is about?"

"What did you learn from this book?"

(moral, non-fiction information)

Tell me about some of the characters from the story.

Which one did you like best?

Why did you choose that character?
